Highlife artiste KK Fosu has commended rappers who try incorporating singing into their compositions, but has said they still fall short of the standard expected of them as singers.

Artistes, including Obrafuor, Sarkodie, EL and Kofi Kinaata, noted for their raps, are evolving into singers, and can be heard singing on a number of recent tracks.

KK Fosu, who is back on the scene with a new composition, Roll Call, sees the evolution as a good move, given it will make the rappers more versatile, but says rap-singers will need to do more to be regarded as serious singers.

The Sudwe composer explained that unlike rap, which is essentially “talking” and only involves arranging verses, singing “goes with rhythm”, which is “not easy”, hence “it is good for an artiste to learn how to sing”.

Asked if he regarded any of the rap artistes as serious singers, he replied tersely: “No, none of them.”

However, KK Fosu was impressed with the exploits of Yaa Pono and says the rapper can do better as a singer than as a rap artiste.

“…Yaa Pono, that boy is great, but it looks like no one is paying attention to his music. That guy can sing better than rapping, because he falls on notes well, whatever keys he raises the guy makes sense,” he told Nana Romeo on Accra100.5FM’s mid-morning show Ayekoo Ayekoo on Friday March 31.

He advised rappers intent on incorporating singing into their compositions to learn it well because “singing is not easy”.

KK Fosu’s other hit tracks include Number One and Oga.

Daddy Lumba Not In My ‘Class’ – Kojo Antwi https://www.ghanatoday.com/news/entertaiment/item/3543-daddy-lumba-not-in-my-‘class’-–-kojo-antwi https://www.ghanatoday.com/news/entertaiment/item/3543-daddy-lumba-not-in-my-‘class’-–-kojo-antwi Daddy Lumba Not In My ‘Class’ – Kojo Antwi

Music maestro, Kojo Antwi has explained that as much as Daddy Lumba is a great musician, he is not in his ‘class’. According to him, his exploits as a musician puts him on a higher pedestal than Daddy Lumba.

Recently, there has been numerous debates on social media as to who is bigger between two of Ghana's biggest music acts; Daddy Lumba and Kojo Antwi.

While he notes that such comparisons are unnecessary, the music maestro believes that he has done more to put him above Daddy Lumba.

Speaking on the Weekend Warmer on Joy FM with DJ Black, the ‘Dadie Anoma’ hit singer said, “they should have had this debate ten years ago.”

He explained that, “Daddy is a great musician, he’s inspired me a lot, we were meant to be here at this time but for me I think, if you listen to what I do, the kind of shows I do and the rest.

"I think when it comes to comparison, I’m not saying Daddy Lumba doesn’t deserve to be there, but I think my target as being with the Angélique Kidjo, Salif Keita, Youssou N'Dour, [I am way up]. If you don’t achieve that, you will fall in between.”

Apart from the numerous Ghanaian awards, he has won two Kora Awards and he is the first Ghanaian to be nominated for the Black Entertainment Television (BET) Awards in 2010. With 22 albums to his credit, the musician and current Chairman of the Ghana Music Rights Organisation (GHAMRO), has been busy in the studio recording a new 14-track album. The album will be released during the first quarter of 2017.

One of the songs Ghanaian should expect from the new album is his collaboration with Dancehall act, Stonebwoy. “I spoke to Stonebwoy three days ago, there is a track called ‘Akyekyede3 Nante3’ and I believe he will do great on that.”

Like the story of Jonah, Kojo Antwi, who dropped the name Julius because of his believe for African names, couldn’t run away from the fact that he was born to do music. As a kid, he was fond of imitating some music greats including Nana Kwame Ampadu.

For his music inspiration, he revealed that he is inspired by “everything that happens around me” and interestingly, he hardly listens to his songs because “Every time I listen to the songs it’s like you will hear something you wished could have been done better.”

Kojo Antwi does not only sing, he can also play instruments like keyboard, guitar, drums and does the compositions himself. He, however, works with a team for the productions.

Asked why he doesn’t show his face on his album covers, the music maestro explained that he believes “Too much exposure can hurt your brand” and therefore does not use his image on his albums.

He urged entertainment personalities to control what they put out in the public domain.

When DJ Black sought to find out what his favourite song out of his impressive catalogue is, Kojo Antwi said “my best is yet to come”

The music maestro listens to a lot of Ghanaian artistes because “I hear a lot of me in a lot of the young ones. When I was coming up, I refused to be boxed,” he explained his desire to be unique.

He believes that “We need varieties, we have to allow them [current musicians] to be what they are.”

There seems to be no saving grace for highlife artist, Kwabena Kwabena, who has been in the headlines for the wrong reasons in the last couple of weeks.

With his marital turmoil still lingering, the artist has been caught up in yet another situation involving some grave contention with event organizers, ABBA Investment, which has led to the assault and detention of an official of the Events firm – www.entertainmentgh.com can state.

Jingles, the Operations Manager for ABBA Investment was said to have served Kwabena at the premises of Metro TV this morning, a notice of a court injunction on Kwabena’s ‘Love Night’ Concert scheduled for February 10, 2017.

The action was said to have angered the artist, who, together with some security men, were reported to have assaulted the Operations Manager, allegedly.

Jingles was said to have reported the assault at Cantonments Police Station but a counter report by the artist got the Manager detained at the station.

In a Statement of Claim, the Plaintiff, ABBA Investments claims jointly and severally against Kwabena Kwabena and his KBKB Music Limited, a perpetual restraining order and also some 180, 000 Cedis being sponsorship funds given to Kwabena Kwabena by VITA MILK when the last event was held. They are also seeking some 13, 000 Cedis in ticket sales revenue from the first edition of F14 from the artiste.

ABBA Investment and Kwabena Kwabena have staged the F14 Concert together for the last two editions and the Company is also accusing the artist of breaching their contract and taking advantage of their relationship to get hold of vital information.

They claim that the artist has ‘stolen’ their concept and is staging his own show, the ‘Love Night’ show.

Calls to personnel at KBKB Music Limited for clarification were not responded to.

Gospel artists offer the most bribes for VGMAs – George Quaye https://www.ghanatoday.com/news/entertaiment/item/3535-gospel-artists-offer-the-most-bribes-for-vgmas-–-george-quaye https://www.ghanatoday.com/news/entertaiment/item/3535-gospel-artists-offer-the-most-bribes-for-vgmas-–-george-quaye Gospel artists offer the most bribes for VGMAs – George Quaye

There’s little dispute about the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) being the most prestigious music awards scheme in Ghana and one of the best across Africa – but, it also comes with some level of accusations of bribery by some industry players – all of which have been baseless and never substantiated.

The likes of Kwaisey Pee (musician), Frimprince (Executive Producer), Dada KD (musician), DJ Oxygen (On –air-presenter) and others have all raised unverifiable cases of bribery in connection with the awards –www.entertainmentgh.com can state!

George Quaye, Head of Communications for Charterhouse Ghana, has added another intriguing twist to these bribery allegations that have dogged the scheme for years.

On the award-winning show, ‘Pundits’, which is telecast on GhOne TV, George, who is the host of the show, stated emphatically that, the most offers of bribe that come to him as an Executive of the scheme – are from gospel artists.

As monitored by www.entertainmentgh.com, while discussing the topic, ‘The Dark Side of Ghana Music: The envy, hatred and malice in the GH. Gospel Music Fraternity. A reality, perception or myth?” – George, who has so much experience as one of the producers of the event and as Communications Head for the VGMA Board, stated that a lot of gospel artists have offered him a bribe in exchange for picking awards.

He also asserted that some gospel artists also engineer ways to thwart the efforts of other gospel artists who gain nominations in the scheme- an assertion that was corroborated by accomplished music producer, Kwasi Ernest, who was a panel member on the show.

The pre-recorded edition of the ‘Pundits’ will show on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at 10pm, after the AFCON Soccer Fiesta Show.

Sarkodie is no match for me - Ayisoba https://www.ghanatoday.com/news/entertaiment/item/3529-sarkodie-is-no-match-for-me-ayisoba https://www.ghanatoday.com/news/entertaiment/item/3529-sarkodie-is-no-match-for-me-ayisoba Sarkodie is no match for me - Ayisoba

King of traditional kologo music, King Ayisoba, says Ghana’s rapper, Sarkodie, is no match for him when it comes to live stage performance.

According to him, no hip-life artiste in Ghana can rub shoulders with him with regards to live band performance, adding the rapperholic cannot perform in countries he (Ayisoba) performs. “Sarkodie is not fit for those shows because he (Sarkodie) cannot perform to a live band, the only thing Sarkodie can do is to mime to his songs on CDs,” he told Onua FM.

King Ayisoba argued that in countries that he has performed, the organisers of the shows he performed on, would prefer engaging American rapper, Jay-Z to Sarkodie “The organizers of those shows will prefer Jay Z than bringing Sarkodie because he (Sarkodie) doesn’t have a band.” For him M.anifest and Wanlov Kubolor are the only hip-life artistes who are performing well in the industry among their contemporaries. “M.anifest and Wanlove are the only artistes who are doing well compared to the rest of the hiplife musicians we have here in Ghana.

“The Whiteman I work with always tells me he prefers to invite a highlife artiste from Ghana than inviting a hip-life artiste to the event he organized.”

I never prophesied Shatta Wale will disappear like Castro – Obinim https://www.ghanatoday.com/news/entertaiment/item/3528-i-never-prophesied-shatta-wale-will-disappear-like-castro-–-obinim https://www.ghanatoday.com/news/entertaiment/item/3528-i-never-prophesied-shatta-wale-will-disappear-like-castro-–-obinim I never prophesied Shatta Wale will disappear like Castro – Obinim

Bishop Daniel Obinim has rubbished claims that he has predicted that Shatta Wale will disappear like ace musician Castro.

The founder of the International God’s Way Church speaking on Okay FM denied unreservedly that, he has predicted the disappearance of the Dance Hall king.

He said that Shatta Wale is a very close friend and thus, he would have contacted him personally if God had revealed anything of the sort to him.

“Shatta Wale is a close associate who respects me as a true man of God. In fact, he calls me Daddy anytime we communicate. We have met over five times and we talk a lot on phone. You can call him to attest to this,” the man of God averred.

He urged the public to disregard all such rumours as any prophetic declaration he makes are placed on his You Tube channel, ‘Bishop Obinim Ministries’.

“If anyone has video or audio recording to back this presumed prophecy of Shatta Wale from me, I challenge him or her to present it as evidence. There is no truth in it,” he said.

He added that, there are news articles about him circulating on social media that he helped young actor, Abraham Atta to chalk the success he is currently relishing in the US; he said he could resurrect the late Bob Okala, and Tetteh Quarshie cocoa seeds he brought to Ghana from Fernando Po was stolen, but all of them are untrue.

"I asked my media boys to find out where these tell-tales were coming from, and they reported back to me that some blogger claimed that stories bearing my name are hot news, so they use it as a means of generating income. So don’t believe everything that is splashed on social media about me… If indeed I made such predictions, you would find them on my You Tube channel,” he said

Onaapo deserves most popular song of the year - Nacee https://www.ghanatoday.com/news/entertaiment/item/3525-onaapo-deserves-most-popular-song-of-the-year-nacee https://www.ghanatoday.com/news/entertaiment/item/3525-onaapo-deserves-most-popular-song-of-the-year-nacee Onaapo deserves most popular song of the year - Nacee

Renowned sound engineer, Nana Osei aka Nacee, says his political song, Onaapo which was massively enjoyed by Ghanaians during the peak of the political season deserves to win the Most Popular Song at this year’s Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA).

To the sound engineer, no song was more popular than Onaapo last year, adding that if the (VGMA) board would be fair, Onaapo deserves to win the category “hands down”.

“No artiste can challenge Onaapo with his or her song because they know very well they cannot match up to the song,” he said.

Expanding on why he thinks the song stands tall, Nacee said for Onaapo to be played in churches, at beaches, in clubs and at every outdoor event is a reflection of how the song was enjoyed by the masses irrespective of their background.

“It is not easy for a particular song to be on the lips of every Ghanaian across the 10 regions of Ghana but Onaapo did that and I will therefore be disappointed if the song does not win Most Popular song,” Nacee told Showbiz.

There have been controversy over who owns the Onaapo song and Nacee has come out to say that he composed the song and not Dee Aja as known by many, adding that he is very positive his latest song, Onaapa Gospel, would not challenge the original one.

According to him, he composed the gospel version of Onaapo because he felt the song was too nice to die out soon.

“Political songs don’t really stay on for a long time but with the gospel version which is devoid of the usage of NPP or NDC, I believe pastors can even allow their choristers to perform the song in church,” he said.

For now, Nacee said he is planning to release his two albums Counselor 1 and Counselor 2 which have songs like Fire Bon You, Elevanyo, Sing My Praise, Time With God, Onaapo (Gospel), Me Ne Woaa among other tracks.

He’s been in the sound recording business for some years now and has successfully worked with Antwi Ne Antwi, Noble Nketia, Obour, Nana Antwi, Bosom (now known as Grandpa), FBS, Samini, Ohemaa Mercy and Isaac Ampong,

The rest are Rev. Prince Nyarko, Grace Ashy, Wofa, Cee, Sidney, Suzzy & Matt, Daughters of Glorious Jesus and many others.

Nacee has also nurtured artistes like No Tribe, Bernice Ansah, Vida, Otumfuo, Celestine and Odeefuo.

The Management of Freedom Family Entertainment has debunked reports circulating on social media that Ghanaian music Maestro, Kojo Antwi, has passed on in Germany.

A statement by the management of the legend musician called on Music lovers to disregard the reports.

According to Mr. Ransford Antwi, who represents the Ghanaian music Maestro, "Kojo is fine and he's in Ghana. He hasn't traveled to Germany as the story sought to portray. It's disgusting how anyone would want his fellow human being dead for no reason. Knowing that what you're putting out there is untrue and going ahead to do it is crazy, to say the least."

He further warned those behind such fake stories to desist from that, as such stuff portray social media in a negative light.

He also thanked all those who have called to verify the authenticity of the story and reassured Ghanaians that the veteran musician is in great shape.

Ghanaian Hiplife musician, Nana Quame, has said the pressure to release songs has contributed to the low quality of music produced in recent times.

The ‘Akye’ hit maker told Anita Erskine on Starr Drive that the music of these days does not have the quality of the past.

“The pressure in the system to release songs, it’s like anything goes...someone can release like 50 to sixty tracks in a year and it doesn’t work that way. If you look at people; Jay Z, they don’t do that, you can’t just go into the studio and just do music, you take your time go to the studio, write proper music because you are impacting lives and it’s like the pressure in the system of releasing songs has contributed to that which is not the best”.

Nana Quame added that he has recorded twenty tracks so far and taking his time to give it to his fans.

“I want people to have the best of me so I’m taking my time to give it to my fans. I want people to know what I do best”.

Nana Quame has to his credit successful shows such as Loud In Accra 2000, he was the first Ghanaian to perform at the Carnival 2000 in UK, Ghana Independence Day Celebration UK, Miss Ghana 2001(Ghana), Africa Durb(UK) and will be performing at the Miss Ghana New York this year.

In 2001, he released his third album, 'FAKYE'. He was nominated twice for the best male voice at the Ghana Music Awards and Original Song Of The Year 2002 and won the Original Song Of The Year.

He has won a lot of awards and also had a number of nominations too. He was nominated in 5 categories during the Ghana Music Awards 2003. He won the Best Male Vocalist for the year 2003.
