About us:
GhanaToday is an internet based concept developed by Ghanaian-borne ICT experts based in the Netherlands and Ghana to serve as a source of procuring firsthand information of Ghana on the internet.
It started as a mere internet browser facility to provide internet links of Ghanaian related websites way back in 1996. After this initial attempt the website was then enhanced two years later to focus more on the socio-economic activities prevailing in Ghana.
The first edition of GhanaToday website consisted of HTML pages which made it quite difficult to institute multiple changes. We therefore saw the need to rebuild the whole system adopting a Content Management System (CMS) approach. This was no easy task and it took a considerable length of time, but with the determination to realize our dreams, we pressed hard to make this dream a reality.
The website then had its second phase development in 2003 which was a CMS based. At that point we decided to incorporate an internet radio streaming option into the website which came out as the popular GhanaToday Online.
Our purpose is to promote the already acclaimed Ghanaian music worldwide and to cover live, significant happenings and events in Ghana. GhanaToday Online went live on the internet in November 2003 and over the next three months the site registered about 20,000 listeners a day.
Suddenly our systems were overwhelmed and could not take the load. This posed another problem which compelled us to put the development of the GhanaToday (CMS) on hold again, while we rectified the GhanaToday Online problem. After some few months, we were able to upgrade our systems, this time having additional capacity to transmit live television programmes on the internet.
Now GhanaToday is serving as the Information Gateway to Ghana on the World Wide Web.
The current version is not in the slightest the final and should be seen as a prelude while we continue with further developments of the website. It is our greatest desire that individuals, organisations and the state contribute towards its accomplishment with comments, ideas and suggestions which will help in no small way in realizing the dream of enriching the aura of Ghana on the World Wide Web.
