About 3,299 teachers have been paid their salary arrears and allowances following a successful validation of their documents.

Government is currently validating the documents of over 29,000 because the various teacher unions in the country demanded the payment of their salary arrears.
Government had argued that the payments had delayed due to some fake documents submitted by the affected teachers.

Speaking to Citi News, the Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Education Service Jonathan Bettey said a second batch of teachers would be paid immediately after the validation of their documents.
“We are reliably informed that about 3,299 teacher were paid in June and another validation is on-going. With the validation, what happens is, they are validating them in batches so the validated ones were 3,299.”

He said after validating a number of the documents within a period, “they pay and then continue with another validation.”

“So they are currently validating another 3,500 teachers against the next payment. It has been very successful and smooth. The teachers unions and all those involved are cooperating and are doing very well,” Mr. Bettey added.

Teachers demands speedy validation of documents
The Coalition of Concerned Teachers (CCT), had earlier demanded a peedy audit of the remaining documents to enable them receive their allowances.
Teachers and the government had reached a deal in February to have the auditors move to an offsite location to validate the documents of over 29,000 teachers to facilitate the payment of their 2013/14 salary arrears and allowances.
