Ghana stars face World Cup axe Print E-mail
Tuesday, 03 January 2006
ImageTop players of Eagles Group D rivals, the Black Stars of Ghana, risk missing out on the World Cup in June if they fail to report in time to the team’s Nations Cup training camp in Tunisia, Coach Ratomir Dujkovic has warned.

"You see, during the qualification matches, all the players came on time, now some refused to come.

"This is the problem at the moment. We would see how to manage it but I have only two solutions. Accept reasons for them not to come for the Cup of Nations or not to call them for the World Cup, we would see," said a clearly upset Dujkovic.

"This moment, I’m very disappointed with the news that some of the players are not coming. Nobody, no player has called me, only (Dan) Edusei asked to stay a few days more. I would give him the chance to stay.

"Some players did come, they didn’t call me and we would take our position on what to do in the coming days. Lets meet 5 or 6 January, who would be in camp, OK, who would not be.

"They must think about it if they would be in the list for the World Cup," the coach warned.

The Serbian coach is in Tunisia with mostly players from the local league as several of the country’s key stars have stayed away for one reason or the other.

The coach has already turned down a request from English club, Chelsea for star midfielder, Michael Essien to shuttle between England and Egypt during the Nations Cup.

AS Roma defender, Samuel Osei Kuffour, is expected to join the team on January 3 after getting permission to attend to some family matters. The Stars, who pulled out of a test game against Egypt, are now likely to play a friendly against Togo before another friendly against Tunisia on January 15.

I like the way coach doya is going about things. its high time our darling players choose between country and club commitment.Playing for country is just some few times in the year.I totaly support the coach for whatever stands he take.

I support the coach, I think it's time for us to let the euro clubs to respect the africa cup of nation that also goes to the players as well, any player who picks money first before his/her nation dont deserve to wear the national colors because he/she has no love for the country. thanks.

I strongly support the coach to take any favourable action against uncommited players. This is the time loyalty must be shown to one's country. For michael Essien ,he must report whether injured or fit,his presence is a motivation to the fans.

It quite pathetic to hear that over 20millions of Ghanaians taxpayers wouldn't be watching CAN 2006 whiles a few tens of ministers will be watching in the comfort of their homes via MNET or other networks.
This reminds me of the story I read in secondary school ie ''THE ANIMAL KINGDOM'' Oh, two legs bad, four legs good.
A government with no conscious for its people. After paying taxes to enable Govt run its affairs and sending much time praying for qualification, it is a pity that we have been stabbed in the back by the people we've prayed for and entrusted our wealth.
PreZ Kuffour, Osafo Marfo, GAF chairman and all government officials will be watching from their homes whiles you and I pay for what the matches they will be watching.

Is it fair and where is govt social responsibility and ethical stance??????????????????
