Ghana coach Ratomir Dujkovic has all but written off his team's chances of winning a fifth African Cup of Nations. The Black Stars start their Nations Cup campaign against Nigeria on Monday.
Dujkovic told BBC Sport that injuries to Michael Essien, Sulley Muntari and Asamoah Gyan have left him with little room to manoeuvre in Group D. "We're in a tough group and we don't have options, so it'll be very difficult to win this trophy because of the three injured players," he said. "I feel big pressure on me for this competition: everyone's pressing me to win this competition and I think it's unfair." The Black Stars are in the so-called group of death, where they face Senegal and Zimbabwe as well as Nigeria. "For us, the World Cup is of course more important. I wanted to use other players for this tournament to give them a chance to show their capacity to play for the Black Stars," Dujkovic said. "But I had to call our best guys because of the pressure from the fans. Now with these injuries, I'm in trouble because I cannot promise anything to Ghanaians. "They would like to be the first country to win this important trophy for the fifth time but they forget what happened before I came. "They're pressing me, and I don't like to work this way. We will try our best to win the trophy with the group that we have. "Fifteen or twenty days ago, we were candidates for this trophy but now we're not because of the injuries and we have to accept this," said the man who took Rwanda to the last Nations Cup finals in Tunisia. Mr. coach, you have said it right that there is more to the world cup than the African cup tournament, which Ghanaians are 4 times winners. But whatever you may look it at, Ghanaians are very optitimistic when it comes to football, of which they do not take anything for granted. My humble advice to you is to use all the available resources in your camp to deliver the necessary goals, and Ghanaian in their humanistic wisdom would judge the outcome of your hard work. So,I hope is time for you to sound like a warrior(winner), but not a loser even before the tournament kicks off.

If our coach(Dujkovic)really made those negative statements to BBC then he may be trying to put his work with Ghana on line.As a a coach,I expect him to be postive at all times. It's not 3 players that make a football team.Even one can be instrumental but 'soldier man go soldier man comes' is something Ghanaians believe in.Our coach has lost our matches before it's played so how's he go to lead a plan.Which team is there to loose

my view, Ghana needs local coach for both africa championship and world cup. How can a coach makes comments like this, the heart not for Ghana, but our money.

"They're pressing me, and I don't like to work this way. We will try our best to win the trophy with the group that we have." This is Coach Dukjovic cry. He is appealing to all Ghanaians that the road seem touch because his best players are injured. Please let us pray to support him and our players rather than pressurizing him. We must know that he will be hoping for the best himself to keep his own reputation high.

Ghanaians should allow the coach to do his own thing, every Ghanaian seems to know about football why? even the masons, welder, mechanic, carpenter and th most annoying the so called media men who anit coaches, but claims to do the job better

It is so unfortunate that Africa and Ghana in this case countiues to snatch success from the jaws of failure with the most naturally gifted players on the planet but the poorest discipline. When will Pele of Brazil's forecast of an African World Cup victory come to pass. This is such a travestry.

i think we should not depend on the coach or the players alone but rather the ALMIGHTY GOD. are will forgotten that we God all things are posible? also, i think we should believe in the coach and the players that they will win. we should stop pressuring the coach for whom he should add to the game or eliminate. what the coach and the players need is our prayers and our support. thanks
