Otto Addo returns for Ghana Print E-mail
Wednesday, 15 February 2006

Otto AddoGermany-based midfielder Otto Addo has been recalled to the Ghana squad for the first time in four years. Addo was named in the 20-man party that will travel to the USA for a game against Mexico on 1 March.

The game should mark the return of midfielders Michael Essien and Sulley Muntari, who missed the Nations Cup as a result of injury.

Patrick Agyeman, who features English championship side Preston North End, was also invited, alongside Israel-based midfielder Razak Ibrahim.

Ghana's poor showing at the African Cup of Nations, where they were eliminated in the first round, has led to increased pressure on coach Ratomir Dujkovic.

The Serbian is taking the West African side to their first World Cup finals in the summer, where they will face Italy, the Czech Republic and the USA in the group stages.

Goalkeepers: Sammy Adjei, (Mohadon Sports Ashdod/Israel), George Owu (AshantiGold)
Defenders: John Paintsil, (Hapoel Tel Aviv/Israel), Emmanuel Pappoe, (Hapoel Kfar Sava/Israel), Samuel Osei Kufuor, (Roma/Italy), Issah Ahmed (Randers FC, Denmark) John Mensah, (Stade Rennes/France) Hans Sarpei (VfL Wolfsburg/Germany)
Midfielders: Michael Essien, (Chelsea/England), Sulley Muntari, (Udinese/Italy) Stephen Appiah, (Fenerbache/Turkey), Otto Addo, (FC Mainz/Germany) Haminu Dramani, (Red Star Belgrade/Serbia & Montenegro), Razak Ibrahim

The return of Otto Addo and Isaac Boakye to the squad is a very good news.My only worry is the fact that with the exception of Ashantigold goalkeeper,George Owu, no local based player was named.Nevertheless we Ghanaians are still looking up to him.

i like otto because,he can handle ball and moreover he is skillful,we need some like him not Hamidu Dramani,i will rather go for general Emmanuel Osei Kufour.

THANK GOD, ALMIGHTY GHANA IS MAKING SOME GOOD DECISIONS AND I APPLAUD THAT.WHAT IS MISSING IS THE SERVICES OF EMMANUEL OSEI KUFFUOR, AND THE NATURAL RIGHT WINGER YAW 'RUSH' PREKO.

i think is very good to keep otto addo in the team b,cos he very skilful and that is what we lack in the team now,and we also need old players like abedi pele and akwasi appiah on the bench to multivate the players.

I look forward to the day when we ghanaians will play with a little more passion and patriotism for our nation just like nigerians who even when weak always make up for their weakness with patriotism.

All is good now, but we have to learn from our mistakes, b'cos there is nothing like 'Football Nation' Please we should understand that those days are gone! now is the Time of No selfish football,Stamina, Strength,Power, Skills and Commitment. My advice is that, these Guys shd eat well, Train well I mean Physical even they shd lift some metalls, espercially around their waist down to the feet, they shd be Creative, able to Run fast, Good Condition and also accurate passes, run to receive balls,
Furthermore they shd learn how to shut from a long range eg; like 15m down to the poles, then we can make it, for my long stay in europe here I have study modern Football. There is still Hope Ghana!

I AM HAPPY WITH THE CURRENT SQUAD.GONE ARE THE DAYS WHERE WE USE NAME TO PLAY NOW, IT's stamina, strenght, skills and commitment.one thing left is to callold players like akwasi appiah, abedi on the bench to multivate theplayers.

I really have nothing more 2 say with respect 2 what others have said but I think this squard is capable of making Ghana proud in this world cup which is 2 be hosted in Germany coming this June.
With de presence of Essien, Ali. Appiah & other top players, I think we have a position in this world cup. But I stil think Asamoah Gyan shd. be called 2 de squard 2 make de team complete. Thanx.

Well, i personally like Otto Addo very much and I think he'll be very usefull to the team.I pray Ghana makes it far this time.

I'm in fact very pleased with the Ghanaian squard so far. My view is, even if we present the world's best eleven and we luck committment,we shall never be successful. However, if all the players and the entire management of the team take the the task of coming and working together, the BLACK STARS of Ghana shall surely make a history at the impending world cup

In fact, I'm very pleased with the new squard named for the BLACK STARS. However, everybody will agree with me that, if even we present the world's best eleven and yet we luck committment, we shall never be successfull. The BLACK STARS can make a great history at the impending world cup, if all the players and the entire management of the team take the task of coming and working together as one unit. Also we shouldn't be swollen headed just becouse we have the presence of MICHEAL ESSIEN and STEVEN APPIAH due to the fact that, other competting countries even have better players than the few I have mentioned. We're happy to see OTTO ADDO back in the STARS. LONG LIVE GHANA LONG LIVE BLACK STARS.

I'm now happy that chelsea manager has release Michael Essien this time. We should always think of our country first because, no matter where we go, we will still come back to our country. Ghana needs our support.

I AM VERY HAPPY WITH THE NEW SQUAD , WITH ISAAC BOAKYE AND OTTO ADDO I KNOW THE BLACKSTARS ARE GOING TO MAKE IT THIS TIME. LET PRAY 4 THEM

where is Asamoah Gyan? He needs to be on the squad
Posted by BB, who lives in U.S.A. on March 1, 2006 at 9:37

I believ the called players are ok for some of our friendlies and i also believe we are going to score Mexico. With the likes of Otto Addo and the others whom are physically omposed an fit we are going all the way but lets remember to pray for them
Posted by Michael osafo, on March 1, 2006 at 4:07

The last african cup of nations summed up what we ghanaians are really. we have all the talent by nature but we seem unable to find outlet for them not least when it matters most.
we also lack a sense of patriotism and this reflects in all areas of the ghanaian life. a flock without unity and a dedicated sheperd. polish up ghana and be proud of her.
Posted by jay abbas, who lives in london/uk on March 2, 2006 at 11:15

I know the black stars are going to do well
in germany thjs summer.Nobody have to blame the coach if we dont win a match the group we are in is not easy. What I have notice from the black stars is matches you expert them to lose they win.In egypt they won against senegal but lost to zimbabue .Mexico is one of the best in the world and we lost by one goal.I WISH THEM ALL THE BEST
Posted by Daniel Asumeng, who lives in Belgium on March 3, 2006 at 9:59

If Otto Addo have return what about Charles Taylor ?
Posted by Kwaku Baafi, who lives in Toronto on April 25, 2006 at 12:23

I am very glad that the blackstar made a good choice of including player like otto addo in the squad. i would suggest that they should also take in consideration of adding players like derrick boateng, yaw preko and the ghanaian and africa legend Abedi ayew pele to complete his success as a world class soccer legend i am appealing to coach dujkovic to do that for the good name of the legend as that is the only thing absent in his soccer carrer.

PLEASE SOMEONE SHOULD TRY AND INFORM OUR HONOURABLE COACH TO REMIND OUR TEAM OF FREE KICKS. WE HAVE BEEN ELEMINATED FROM A LOT OF TOURNAMENT BECAUSE OUR TEAM ALWAYS WANT TO PROTEST TO THE REFEREE THAN CONCENTRATING ON THE GAME. THE WORLD IS WATCHING IF WE HAVE LEARNT FROM OUR MISTAKES. NOTE THAT OUR OPPONENTS HAVE ALSO WATCH OUR MATCHES AND HAVE NOTICE ALL OUR MISTAKES AND WILL BE LOOKING UP TO CAPITALIZING ON THEM. ' A WORD TO THE WISE IS IN THE NORTH'
